NBA Ballers
Overall: This seemed like a great concept when I first heard about it, but after playing the game, I am sort of disappointed.
Gameplay: The story is pretty good, and in tune with today's reality tv craze. you are a contestant on a reality tv show and you have to work your way up the ladder and one day face and hopefully school nba all stars like lebron and shaq. The bad part about the game is this: it takes a while to get used to the controls and everything, and once you are accustomed to them, it's all good right? wrong. by the time you have mastered the controls the game is old, leading to multiple shouts of **** why did I waste my time on this. but in all honesty, it was fun while it lasted.
Graphics: the visuals are very good, and the player models and visual customization is top notch. you can choose from a wide selection of bling, hats, shoes, shirts, pants, watches, etc.
Audio: some of the trash talking can get annoying after a while, but hey, I guess that is the point of trash talk. . :D
other than that the sound is pretty good.
Overall Score: 7.0 / 10 Enter the Matrix
Overall: This game does the first matrix game no justice at all. The quality of this game is on par with the quality of the 2nd matrix installment(which I disliked). I would honestly rather play as neo than as niobe and ghost. I am looking forward to the next matrix game, hoping it leaves this matrix game in the dust.
Gameplay: The game was fun for a while, but that fun quickly wore off. The fighting system was sloppy, as was the gun action. the controls were not all that great and the game is way too 'set,' with not many options regarding how to accomplish a goal. There is however an abundance of unlockable extra features, which is one of the most fun parts of the game(figuring out how to unlock the stuff, and then doing it).
Graphics: The visuals for this game are simply outstanding. from the bullet trails in 'bullet time,' to niobe's alligator skin-looking coat, the graphics are top-notch. the greatest part about this is it's HD-TV compatability.
Audio: The sound of the game is also great, with the actors from the movie playing the voices of the characters in the game. the only downside to this is that the voices in the movie are monotone, but that is part of the movie, so you can't really blame the game for that.
Overall Score: 5.0 / 10 Counter-Strike
Overall: This is a very fun game, but only get this if you have xbox live, because it is otherwise utterly pointless. It is a very fun online game.
Gameplay: the shooting system works great and the controls are near perfect. the bomb gametype is probably the most fun, where one team tries to plant the bomb in the other team's 'base.' online and offline are exactly the same except with no human players offline.
Graphics: to be honest the visuals aren't that great. they aren't up to par with many games on xbox, and the visuals are a major disappointment.
Audio: there isn't really a lot of sound to judge this game by, besides some explosions and bullets, but hey it does a good job in those 2 departments...
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Overall: This game is alright compared to the rest of the star wars games. It's really nothing special, but if you are looking to play out the battles from the movie, then it's the only game to do that, and it actually does a good job of following the movie.
Gameplay: The controls are pretty easy to learn and failry easy to master also. The force system is executed pretty well with a 'force meter' thing. you can do things with the force such as jump high, push enemies, among other things that you can unlock. depending on how well you do in a level you get a certain number of points to unlock things like new force powers. there are also lots of unlockables such as characters or stages for multiplayer battles.
Graphics: the visuals are nothing spectacular, but they do a decent job of portraying the characters from the movie. for example, if you see anakin or obi wan, it is obvious who it is, which is exxpected at this level of technology...
Audio: the voice acting is good, with the characters from the movie lending their voice to the game, which is always a good thing. sometimes if you are in a long boss fight like against count dukku, the things he says can get old pretty fast, but that is a minor hindrance.
Overall Score: 6.0 / 10 Soul Calibur 2
Overall: This is probably the best fighting game I have ever played. The visuals, sound, gameplay, and just about everything else about the game is smooth as silk. A must have for any fan of fighting games.
Gameplay: The gameplay is great. the story is good and there is a huge selection of characters, with the special xbox character as Spawn. The controls are good and there is also a good variety of weapons. some characters use heavy weapons, such as axes or hammers. others use medium weapons such as swords, while the last group uses light weapons: whips, knives, staffs.
Graphics: the graphics are pretty good, with good fighting stages and good player models. the weapons look great also, with lots of detail. looks great on xbox.
Audio: sounds are pretty good, with good sound effects during fights, but nothing really special. voice acting is aight.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Fuzion Frenzy
Overall: This is a good party game for when you have friends over, but it is not a very good game to play on your own. being a launch game, it has no XBOX live access, which is another downside. Overall, this would probably be a pretty good purchase as it probably costs about $5.
Gameplay: This game is kind of similar to mario party without the board. there are lots of mini games to play on your way to being the best. there is a small selection of characters to choose from, but it is enough. you can play with up to 3 friends and duke it out to see who rules. The wide variety of mini-games is a definite +.
Graphics: The visuals aren't great, but it was a launch game, so you can't blame it too much for that. The character models aren't great either, but it is an arcade style game, so I doubt they were trying to be realistic.
Audio: some of the characters like zach can get rediculously annoying with some of the things they say after they win a round. best way to prevent this: only win with non-annoying characters and don't let the annoying ones win.
Overall Score: 7.0 / 10 Fable
Overall: Fable is a great game and it's main shortcoming is that it was hyped up way too much. Everyone expected a super deep and open ended experience where you could do anything you wanted. the game is fairly open ended and there is a lot of great features such as the good and evil system.
Gameplay: Every time you do an evil deed like kill someone, you get evil points, and when you do something benevolent like save someone's life, you get good points. The combat system is excellent and there is a good amount of customization. you can choose from a wide variety of clothes, some that look heroic and some that look villan-like. you can also choose from a plethora of weapens, and also make add-ons to these weapons such as flame or ice power.
Graphics: The visuals are pretty good. the player models are great and you can see subtle things like chicken feathers fly when you kick a chicken, or ripples as you walk through shallow water.
Audio: The voice acting and sound effects are fair... some of the characters can get annoying at times, but this is not rare for an RPG game like this. Villagers will sometimes say the exact same thing as other villagers.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne
Overall: Max Payne 2 is a very fun game and is how a 3rd person shooter game should be made. It has a great story and a great setup with the comic book feel to it.
Gameplay: the bullet time-like feature is a wonderful one that was carried over from the first game. There is a good selection of weapons, some of which can be dual wielded. the control scheme is basically perfect for this kind of game. the only downside is the game is a little too short.
Graphics: the visuals are pretty good. The in-game graphics and the player models are decent. The cut-scenes are done similar to a comic book, with the talk and thinking boxes. Some parts of the game have an eerie feel to them because of the good visuals.
Audio: The voice acting is exceptional, with the crazy baddies sounding genuianely insane. Another major contributing factor to the eerieness of the game is the creepy sounds.
Suggestions: Make a Max Payne 3!
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 NBA Street Vol. 3
Overall: This is easily the best and most innovative game yet in the series. Whether you have xbox live or not, this game will make a great purchase for any fan of the series, or a fan of basketball in general.
Gameplay: The controls are very similar to last year's version which is definately a good thing. The addition of online play is the best new feature, with the ability to create a player and improve his stats with the more experience you get. If you become famous enough online, NBA players will even join your team. the Dunk Contest is another great feature, as you can use objects such as speakers or portapotties to jump over.
Graphics: the graphics are pretty good, as you can definately tell who the NBA players are by their faces. The option to make custom courts is also a good visual feature with the ability to almost completely customize the court, from the color of concrete, to the graffiti on the walls.
Audio: The soundtrack is pretty good, with songs from the beastie boys and De La Soul among others. the commentary is done very nicely but it can get old as in most games.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Batman Begins
Overall: This is a pretty good game, but it acts like it is more open ended than it really is. It is kind of a mix of a spy/3rd person action game. stealth is often needed to complete tasks, and sometimes the situations call for brute force. For big batman fans, this would probably be a good rental or maybe purchase.
Gameplay: The main theme of the game is fear. the object is to navigate through the levels while using things such as gadgets and the environment to create fear in the enemies, making them weaker. you can do lots of different things, like throw ninja star-like things, use a grappling hook, or pick up enemies by the throat to interrogate them. The game has a good feel to it and follows the story of the movie quite nicely. It often goes into more detail than the movie does, or changes something, such as the dock scene. rather than just seeing batman do things, you have to look around and figure out what to do to accomplish the goals. there is a room you can go into where you can unlock characters and see their stories and their background info, which is a neat added feature. their are tons of unlockables such as different batsuits, and videos about the production of the game & movie. some good variety comes with a couple of batmobile missions, which are terrific fun to say the least.
Graphics: The visuals are pretty good but not spectacular, with creepy some creepy looking bad guys, and then the generic looking minions. Batman himself is pretty well rendered. the cut-scenes are scenes from the movie.
Audio: The sound is great, as the actors from the movie are used for the characters' voices. this process is shown in an unlockable video. You can also hear some interesting conversations between baddies, which is sometimes part of your mission.
Overall Score: 7.0 / 10 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Overall: This game is easily the best of the GTA series to date. it is set in the 90's which is a nice change from the last gta. with the game comes a rediculous amount of new features which add a lot to the playability and feel of the game.
Gameplay: The ability to buy clothes, get hair-cuts, work out, eat, take pictures, paint grafitti, and ride bicycles are just a few of the many new features in GTA: SA. There is a wide variety of missions to pick from, and the cinematics preceding the missions have a really good feel to them. The missions themselves range from smokin a hater and his crew, to stealing guns from the national guard armory. whether you want to complete the missions, or just blow stuff up is completely up to you.
Graphics: The visuals are great, from the player models, to how far you can see in the distance. you can change the look of your CJ by doing a number of things like working out to get muscles, eating a lot to get fat, buying new clothes to look cool, or getting a haircut to look like the man.
Audio: The soundtrack is another terrific feature of the game with lots of past hits from artists such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and even Tom Petty. the cinematic conversations have a very real feel to them as the amount of swearing is enourmous. The voice acting is pretty good, with an allstar actor as the bad cop, Samuel L Jackson. Rapper Game also make sort of a guest appearance as a drug dealer.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Madden NFL 06
Overall: Madden recently bought the rights to NFL video games, and with madden 06, they definately showed that the NFL is in good hands.
Gameplay: The most innovative new feature is the QB Vision, where you move the right thumbstick or hold R and press a recievers button to look around the field. This creates a much more authentic feel to this football game than that of many other games. The control scheme has also been retouched, which is a major improvement, as A IS NOW SPRINT ON BOTH OFFENSE AND DEFENSE!! The third major new feature is the superstar mode, where you guide a player through an NFL career. you can choose to do one of three things at the start of this mode; choose your parents to determine stats, import a player from NFL street 2, or import you Race For The Heisman player from NCAA 06. This is a very innovative new feature which is loads of fun.
Xbox live play is great with a new fantasy football option, and the new EA Locker, where you can put your saved files such as rosters or franchises. you can also play your previously offline franchise games against a human opponent online. there is a rushing attack mini game which is very fun when you don't have enough time to play a full game.
Graphics: The visuals are slightly improved over last year, with some new animations and maybe slightly better graphics.
Audio: Classic commentary by John Madden and Al Michaels can get old after a while, but this is not suprising in the world of video game commentary. sometimes you can hear the players talking about what they think the offensive play will be, and they are right sometimes, and wrong sometimes.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 MVP Baseball 2005
Overall: Overall, this is a fun baseball game to play when you need a baseball fix. It's also great to play against friends and also online
Gameplay: To bat you push the thumbstick the direction you want to hit the ball, rather than where you think the pitch will be. nice addition. the pitching is good. online play is pretty good as well.
Graphics: The visuals are pretty good. the stadiums look nice and you can definately tell who the players are by looking at them. the crowd looks bad as usual.
Audio: The sounds are ok. the announcers get repetetive, which is the case in pretty much all sports games. Nice feature is I think I heard music from nfl street 2 and mvp as the batter comes to the plate.
Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 Unreal Championship
Overall: Very fast paced arcade style shooter, with pretty good graphics, and very high replay value to boot.
Gameplay: If you are a simulation buff, and you cant stand games that arent as realistic as ghost recon or rainbow six 3, then this game is not for you. what this game lacks in realism, it makes up for in sheer fun. simple controls make this a game that is easy to learn but hard to master. a huge amount of gametypes and a huge selection of characters and weapons make this a game that you can play for months and months.
Graphics: pretty good graphics, but even if the graphics sucked, you wouldn't be able to tell. the game is so fast paced you never really have time to sit and look at stuff.
Audio: great sounds for the various weapons, and a few taunts for after you pump an enemy full of lead. the taunts can get pretty old pretty quick, as there are not many different ones.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 ESPN Major League Baseball 2K4
Overall: Hands down, ESPN Major League Baseball is by far the best baseball game I have ever played. great sound and amazing gameplay combine to make this game a must buy for any fan of baseball.
Gameplay: easy controls for the pitching and batting side of the ball make this game very easy to pick up and play. pitching uses an effort meter to determine how much elbow grease the pitcher puts in to a pitch. the new confidence meter is a great new addition which affects players attributes according to how well or bad they play. pitching uses an effort meter to determine how much elbow grease the pitcher puts in to a pitch.
Graphics: You can tell who the players are by looking at their faces, but this doesn't mean the faces look good. in fact, the faces look very bad compared to what they should be. A boatload of animations more than make up for this bad spot. you will see things from first base coaches jumping out of the ball's path to players throwing the ball out to the crowd after the third strike.
Audio: Great overall sound. the announcers repeat some things, but it never really gets to the point where you are annoyed because of an announcer repeating something over and over. yeah, like another reviewer said, some of the crowds sayings are stupid, but there are definately people like that at baseball games, so that just adds to the realism.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Midtown Madness 3
Overall: great racing game! has TONS to do online and off. race and do missions through the cities of Washington DC and Paris. there are a few weird things like going through trees and stuff but overall I think this game is great.
Gameplay: Playing the game on live is great but if you dont have live I think this game is still awesome!. it has a huge variety of single player missions, from delivering a pizza, to busting criminals. you can also race in single player which is also pretty fun but once you get to live it gets even better. there are many different game modes on live. the ones i've played are checkpoint races, hunter, and stayaway. checkpoint racing is basically just racing and going through checkpoints which is pretty fun. hunter and stayaway are pretty much two very fun variations of tag.
Graphics: The visuals are pretty good but not as good as some other games out there. you can see some reflections off the cars which is nice.
Audio: pretty good sound and the custom sound tracks thing is also a nice feature. the main thing I dont like about the sound is that the things that people in your car say can get pretty repetitave but this isnt a very big thing so overall, the sound is good.
Suggestions: maybe another city or two...
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 NBA Street Vol. 2
Overall: Great street ball game where you can pull off tons of amazing street moves and you can do different modes... Be a legend, and NBA mode. TONS of unlockables. overall I think this is a great game.
Gameplay: Like I said you can create a player and go to be a legend mode where you work your reputation up while playing against other street teams.you get points that you can use to buy points or shoes or jerseys, and you can also buy more moves with these points. then theres NBA mode where you get an NBA team and take on other NBA
teams from each different region. you also get those points here. you can unlock different legends as you can street ballers in be a legend mode. this game is very fun.
Graphics: the visuals are pretty good but not superb... I think the courts and that the players look pretty good.
Audio: has some good music but custom soundtracks would make it so much better... I have so much music that I would love to see in this game... the announcer can get kind of repetitive.
Suggestions: CUSTOM SOUNDTRACKS!!! ONLINE PLAY!!!
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10
