Hunter: The Reckoning
Overall: One of my favorite multiplayer games is, in fact, Hunter: The Reckoning. Great graphics, an exhilerating soundtrack, and fun gameplay all come together to form a great game.
Gameplay: Hunter is one fun game. Sure, the gameplay is repetitive, but it is so fun. Whether playing with friends or flying solo, you're in for a treat. The challenge level isn't very high in single player. You can get through the game losing only a few lives. As more and more players join in, the number and difficulty level of the enemies increases almost exponentially. Be sure you experience the multiplayer. My one gripe is the camera. It is terrible, but only occaisonially does it really affect the gameplay.
Graphics: Drab colors, but beauiful characters, textures, and effects. If you like good graphics and the color brown, this game is for you. I really can't find anything wrong with the graphics, and the framerate never lets up.
Audio: Incredible, heart-pumping soundtrack by Coma keeps you on the edge of your seat. Great ambient noises and sound effects help bring this score up. The voice acting and the cut-scene sounds are off, but they still sound good when you hear them.
Suggestions: You're already making a sequel, so I have no suggestions.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Unreal Championship
Overall: This is a very solid title. I can find nothing that really brings the game down aside from a few glitches. Xbox Live! support really helps the longevity of this game, as well as the overall multiplayer appeal.
Gameplay: This game has great gameplay. There are glitches, but Infogrames plans to fix this through a downloadable patch. The single player mode isn't anything deep or revolutionary. The objective of single player is to become the best and most feared player in the game and win the events. The multiplayer mode is where this game really shines. With system link play, bots, and Xbox Live!, this is one of the best multiplayer experiences ever seen on a console. Xbox Live! play is fantasic, and I can always find a fast, reliable server.
Graphics: The graphics are nothing to gawk at for hours and hours, but they are still pretty nice. The framerate is decent. I find a lot of slowdown when I get into larger games of single player and split-screen multiplayer, but it doesn't make the game and less fun.
Audio: The sound effects and voices are good, but the soundtrack is very, very repetitive. The same tracks are looped over and over again. I don't have 5.1 surround sound, so I don't know how it sounds in this mode.
Suggestions: Fix the bugs quickly and release your patch when you say you will.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Gunvalkyrie
Overall: This is a fun game. If you like shooters, you'll probably love this. It features ten massive levels, all packed full of enemies. The levels may seem big, but they actually do not take long...partly because of the boosts you can do, I'm sure. It has a good storyline, and lots of action and blasting to back it up. The graphics are good, nothing ground-breaking, but good. The learning curve is pretty steep, but once you get the controls down, you can zip around the level with ease. This game is definately worthy of at least a rental on the 'box, even though it is a little short. The levels are very fun, fun enough to want to play it more.
Gameplay: It has a great stroy line and so much action. The learning curve is pretty steep, but once you get it down you can zip around the levels. Almost the whole controller is utilized in this title. You can boost, fly, and run through the levels, all the while being graded and timed for technique, clear time, enemies blasted, extra stuff found, and something else that I can't remember. This game is very immersive; you'll feel like you're really the person flying around.
Graphics: This is a pretty game. It is not ground-breaking, or anything another console could not handle. All of the game is done at a nice FPS with absolutely no slowdown. It has some great looking specials and lighting effects, but still it is no Halo, Dead or Alive 3, or Wreckless.
Audio: The sound fits the game well enough. The background music is a little faint but you can still hear it. The guns sound great as well as futureistic. I mean, one sounds like a little bird chirping but it's all good
Suggestions: Smilebit, keep up the good work. You're pumping out some great games, but try to utilize the Xbox to its full potential, like Jet Set Radio Future.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Halo: Combat Evolved
Overall: I can't get enough of this incredible game. It combines all suspense, action, and light puzzle solving to create an impeccable game. Every time I say, "Okay only until next checkpoint," but I find myself playing well over an hour longer. A quote to describe this game is from Official Xbox Magazine, whose first issue gave 70 reasons why you needed an Xbox. In OXM Halo Review-- "70 reasons why you have to get an Xbox? Pah. As of now, you only need one."
Gameplay: Mrvelously immersive. A great, slow melting storyline combined with action to back it up. I found myself telling the marines to cover me. Vehicles are a very nice touch, and provide even more depth to the gameplay. Also, seamless transition between indoor and outdoor environments.
Graphics: Fantastic graphics. Everything from the character models to the environments and backdrops are painstakingly detailed to the last wrinkle on a face and hyper-realistic evironments. 30 FPS? Sure but a flawless 30 FPS. Hardly any noticable slowdown.
Audio: Very nice. Great music combined with crystal clear voices. The shouting of Elites are sometimes even scary and the music forms a sense of suspense, especially in the frist level where you meet the flood. Crank it up on Dolby 5.1 and its awesome.
Suggestions: You have created a remarkable game here, but you polished it off without an internet option. Now I have to get Halo 1.5, which I don't mind so much because it gives the full original Halo campaign and all the options, more multiplayer maps, more weapons, differnet races, and a rebate prgram for the purchasers of the original Halo. This might upset people on a tight budget.
