MX Unleashed
Overall: This game could be the perfect motocross game but it lacks a few critical things: No online play, no system link, no four player split screen, no custom button configuration (horrible button layout) and no tuning options really hurt this great game.
Gameplay: I am reviewing this game as if it is actually the third installment of Motocross Madness, renamed of course. The new physics in this game are near perfect! There are a huge number of tracks to race. Fast lap attack is awesome. This should be the perfect motocross game...but it is not! It is quite upsetting to see a game get so close to perfection but miss the boat. First of all no Xbox Live hurts this game tremendously. System link was also dumped and so Xbconnect or LAN play is out of the questions as well. The other thing that makes me scratch my head is why we don't get to customize our controller configuration. Xbox racing games generally use the right trigger for gas and the left trigger for brake. There are four presets that you can use which only let you use either the A & X or black and white buttons for gas and brake...not only is it unnatural unless you are a PS2 gamer but it really starts to hurt the thumb after long gaming sessions. It should be standard (at least in racing games) to let people choose their own button configuration but at the very least they should have offered a configuration that use the triggers. This game is also severely dumbed down for the masses. Some of the changes could be viewed as good since it is much harder to wreck than it used to be. It is too bad though that there is no power curve editing, individual part settings or bikepart upgrades...basically you pick a bike to race and that is it...the only thing to unlock in the way of bikes is 50cc and 500cc but those can't help you in the career races. My final comment is that this game is great for single player gaming except for the button configuration but if you'd like to put your skills to the test and race others (and you can't afford both) then I think you would be better off getting MTX Mototrax and pray for MX Unleashed 2 to get here before Xbox 2 : )
Graphics: This game will support HDTVs in 1080i and looks spectacular. I don't think that anyone can be dissapointed here.
Audio: Custom soundtracks are supported and there are many sound configuration options. Bike sounds are amazing and it sounds incredible in 5.1 surround sound.
Suggestions: Online play, system link, custom button configurations and tuning options are missing and need to be implemented.
