Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003
Overall: I've never touched a golf game before because I thought of golf as being a real boring sport. That is until I ran into Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003.
Gameplay: I liked the controls. Some people have problems with the mashing of the white button to apply power, but that never bothered me. The controls are intuitive and well done. What I don't like is the zoom in on the player's face when he makes an accurate shot. I'd rather want to control the spin of the ball instead of looking into his face.
Graphics: The graphics of some of the players' faces look very static to me. The crowd is far off. But the courses and the surroundings look real nice, that's where they spent the most time on.
Audio: The sound adds to a good atmosphere, and the commentary doesn't distract, either. Sometimes the commentary's remarks are somewhat cruel, but you get used to it.
Suggestions: Improve the players' graphics.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 NHL 2K3
Overall: One of the best hockey simulations ever, NHL 2K3 fascinated me from the beginning. I don't know if it was the nice gameplay, the cool graphics, the game modes or the endless possibilities of customization, but this is just overall good stuff. The only thing REALLY annoying is the goalies' strengths. If played in multiplayer mode, you will easily play to scoreless triple overtimes. Although you have the possibility to turn down the goalie's skill, it seems to have no effect whatsoever. But this is about the only glitch that prevents this game being a real fanatastic title.
Gameplay: The controls are fully customizable, with five (or four?) different difficulty settings. Skating is real smooth, although the passing is not quite perfect, and the goalies are way out of this world. Other than that, hats off to a real well done job.
Graphics: It's fun to look at the replays where you can zoom into the players' faces and get a real nice closeup of evry play. Also the reflection on the ice and the trails of the skates are well visible and nicely done.
Audio: The commentary is fun at the beginning but gets annoying with time. It's the same all over and all over again. On the other hand, the crowd is really into the game and fits the flow of the game.
Suggestions: Make the goalies more realistic. It's no fun when you play a two-on-two with your friends and the game remains scoreless for 1 hour. Games like this should be about scoring goals.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 FIFA Soccer 2003
Overall: Great sports game, not just for the soccer addict. Especially multiplayer mode is great fun. We (4 guys) have played this game for hours now, and whether you play 2-on-2 or 4 against the PC, it's always a great title.
Gameplay: Good and intuitive controls make it easy to direct your players around the field. On free kicks far from the goal, you have no idea where you're kicking to. Also, on throw ins it doesn't matter where you throw to, there's always one of your guys taking the ball. The handout of yello cards is also sometimes more lack than logic, but it doesn't matter that much. But overall, it's very fluid and smooth to play.
Graphics: You can choose between different camera angles to look at the field, and the players look very realistic and also have good personalized behaviors. For example Roberto Carlos taking a couple of little steps before a free kick. And David Beckham's trademark free kicks with his white shoes.
Audio: The color commentary is fun in the beginning, but gets on your nerves with time. But then you could switch to a different language. Sometimes, the commentator says that "he doesn't believe that the ump didn't whistle and lets play continue" although the game isactually stopped (German version). Also, the crowd is into the game and very well done. You can also hear the coaches giving advices like "Pass!" and "Let's go!" in their respective languages. Players cursing and yelling is the last thing missing.
Suggestions: I don't understand why Ronaldo is on the Real Madrid team, but not on the Brazil National team. I could live with it if I could correct that manually, but it's just not possible. That's a major drawback for the real addict. Also, some practice modes like shootouts, free kicks or corner kicks. And of course, XBox Live!
