Madden NFL 2004
Overall: Madden 2004 is of course the next in the series of excellent Madden games. The additions this year make this by far the most complex football game available.
Gameplay: I started on Madden 2001 for the PS2 and I played NCAA 2003, so the feel of the game hasn't changed much. The playmaker control is a great idea, it can take a little bit of practice to get right. The idea is that you can direct players other than the specific one you're controlling. Take time to figure this out because you can really dominate using this feature. Also be careful because INTs happen more often in this game than previous Maddens. You won't get blown away if you practice a little and get into how the system works.
Graphics: They've improved on the model from years past, although only slightly. The Madden camera view is pretty good, and there are lots of options for what information is or isn't displayed. The replay mode is awesome, just like in past years.
Audio: You can add custom soundtracks to the ones that play by default, I haven't explored that completely. The commentary isn't bad, it's less repetetive than in previous versions.
Suggestions: I like an idea I saw here about downloading updated rosters. The AI still needs some improvement, especially in working with the new playmaker control. The expanded franchise mode is awesome, and the training is a great idea.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Halo: Combat Evolved
Overall: The classic Xbox FPS. Man against beast. Shooting, driving, flying, single player campaign, multiplayer bloodfest, this game has it all. But you probably knew that already.
Gameplay: You can shoot, you can drive, you can fly, you can play multiplayer in both cooperative and deathmatch. Really, what more can be said except that this game literally has it all. The controls are fairly straight-forward once you've gotten into it a little while. The only reason why this isn't a 5 is because there's a point in the middle of the game where it can get rather boring.
Graphics: The graphics in this game are nothing short of stunning. It's all composed in stellar 3-D with a first-person view when shooting and a third-person view when driving. The character models all look excellent, although there's not a ton of variety when it comes to enemies.
Audio: All I can say is that it's Dolby Digital surround sound and it works exactly as it should. Sound comes from every direction (especially if you step in the wrong room at get ransacked). It's very impressive.-
Suggestions: A little more variety in the levels and the enemies. Find a way to load the next section of the level without that little pause in the action. Adding the ability for a friend to jump into or out of a coop game at any moment.
