Brute Force
Overall: Hmm, what can I say about Brute Force. Well, to start off with, I do give credit to the developers for the premise for the game. I do like the idea of having a team of players with different ability's. (ie. Stealth, Sniper, big !&%$@#* dinosaur that hits people...) And the option to control them for different aspects of the game is a novel idea, if it hadn't been done before... anyone ever play "the thing"? yea... and Half-Life: Opposing Force? Ok, that being said, the execution falls mighty short of what was promised. It pains me to say that, because I really really want to like this game. But the number one thing thats missing from this game is in my opinion is the environment immersion. Anyone can tell you that Halo had this and as amazing looking as that game is, the fact that you actually felt like you were a part of that story, is what sells it. It just does, think about it. I was hoping for the same thing from this game, but just as Mechassult didn't deliver on that, neither does this. It can be done. Return to Castle Wolfenstein proved that Halo wasn't a fluke. Better luck next time Microsoft, i'll be renting for quite sometime from now on. Because $50 bucks is just to much money to pay for something that lets you down.
Gameplay: I was sold on this game because of the game-play. From what I can tell right now? The game-play that was promised just isn't there. And believe me, i've waited for this game just as long as everyone else. To switch between the players is an easy task, but to issue commands for the team? In the middle of a fire fight?! Good lord, not only is it clumsy process, but it kills the momentum every-time you do it. Along with that, the commands you issue are so similar in nature, that in the end theres no friggin' point in doing it in the first place!! Disappointing to say the least. And with all the stuff going on, where it is fun, its a bit hard to keep track of your teammates, and dammit they get shot alot. Oh, and they're also retard and don't heal themselves like the "advanced A.I." they're supposed to be. Which brings me back to my point about the command menu. Flaws abound this game... and i'm sad about it.
Graphics: Now this is one of the few things I cant really complain about, because, well, the texture mapping is everything they said it would be. It is after all "Halo" in third person. But the action going on in front of your character is alittle hard to see, obviously because of the third person perspective. But hey, it does look pretty nice!
Audio: Really no problem with the sound, good explosions going on in the distance. Cheesy character voice overs as expected. All in all, not bad!
Suggestions: Figure out what makes Halo and RTCW so good and incorporate that into a decent third-person shooter. Try try again.
