Group S Challenge
Overall: There is a reason this game only cost $29.99. The graphics maybe great, but the gameplay is boring. I almost fell asleep playing this game. I would recommend passing on this one.
Gameplay: The game play is boring in this game because the driving physics are bad. The cars all feel like grandma's buick. Acceleration is completely linear with no drama at all. You can launch the car at 6k rpm's and it will catch at 5k rpm and just drive off normally. (Mario Kart is more realistic)All the cars seem to have horrible body roll, they handle like boats. You can however upgrade your cars with parts, but it doesn't seem to make acceleration any less linear.
The game modes are pretty basic, Arcade and Circuit mode where you can collect cars, parts, and etc and enter competitions to get money for cars and parts.
Graphics: It seems like this is where the developers spend all their time as the graphics are great. The majority of car models look amazing. A few car models look a bit off, but thats okay. My only major gripe with the graphics is that everytime all the cars brake before the turn huge smoke clouds come out. It just isn't realistic. Anyone who has watched a car race knows you rarely see tire/brake smoke unless some locks up the brakes and never in huge clouds like that.
Audio: The sound in this game is okay. The engine sounds aren't anything special, but aren't bad either. The back ground music is average.
Suggestions: Improve gameplay (Make it fun.
Improve car physics.
XBOX Live capabilities next time.
Get rid of ridiculous tire smoke.
Make acceleration non-linear.
Overall Score: 5.0 / 10 Sega GT Online
Overall: Overall its worth the $20. The game adds some nice new cars and a few badly needed tracks. The online mode is promising but right now it needs some work as it has many problems.
Gameplay: The gameplay is the same as in Sega GT 2002. Pretty good car physics and cars are upgradable with even more parts. They now added 4 player split screen support aswell. The online part has many features. Downloadable content should allow for new parts, tracks, and cars. The net code seems okay, still could use a lot of work. I wouldn't play with too many people in a game right now. You can buy and trade cars and parts with other people. A problem came up with a car I got from a trade though. It cause my game to crash when I select it in my garage. Also finding games is hard because if you select a game after searching in optimatch and the race has begun, you get sent back to the like online menu and have to do a optimatch search again to find a new game. So it can take 30 sec to find a game, if the game has already started you get sent back, and then you need to search again and try to get into a game again and if you don't get in you have to search again and so on.
Graphics: Graphics are dated. Even on HDTV the graphics don't look very clear. Its definately behind PGR2, Group S, and many others. However the car models are well done and the graphics are toleratable.
Audio: The sound in the game is pretty good. The engines sound good and cars sound different when they have turbos and etc.
Suggestions: Graphics Overhaul.Fix Online mode search menus for optimatch. Fix bugs with trading. Work on net code.
Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 Auto Modellista
Overall: Overall the game is innovative, but lacking in the gameplay department just like the PS2 version. The game is great to look at, but thats about it. The cell shading is the only reason this game is known because otherwise it doesn't offer much.
Gameplay: You can customize your car with decals, performance parts, and body kits, but its not on the same level as NFS: Underground. The problem with the game play is that the cars are hard to drive. You do get use to it, but even then the game doesn't offer much. A nice feature of the game though is that you can do a "easy tune" to your car where you can quickly set up your car for a fast track or a curvey track, or equip your car for different weather and track conditions.
Graphics: The cell shading is pretty well done in this game. Its nice just to look at the cars. The car models are for the most part very well done. The graphics overall are good.
Audio: I didn't really notice anything special about the sound in this game or anything terrible. The voice of the announcer is a little weird and he can get annoying when he cheers you on during the race with the same lines.
Suggestions: Fix the gameplay and make the game more interesting. Break the mold, too many race games just have you unlocking cars and items. Try something a little bit different. Make the cars a little easier to drive/control. Work on car physics a little more.
Overall Score: 5.0 / 10 R: Racing Evolution
Overall: Overall this is an interesting racing game. The story isn't amazing, but its much better then no story at all. You play as Rena a (hot) female rookie racer. After each chapter of the game there are some short cut scene which are nice. Unfortunately the gameplay isn't as good as some other racing games. The game has a interesting mix of cars from rally to drag cars. (New and Old) The game retails for $29.99 and I can see why because it is very short. The racing life(story) mode is atleast because I already beat it. Its only 14 chapters. (1-3 races in a chapter)
Gameplay: The game play is okay. This game has some innovative features. You can pressure other drivers by drafting them and it makes it much easier to pass them. The game also has your pit crew and other drivers giving up short messages during the race which actually keeps you into the action race. Unfortunately the racing physics in this game isn't the best. The cars feel like they don't have any suspension and the engine sounds aren't very good.
Graphics: The graphics are good and the game supports 480p and widescreen. The graphics aren't on the same level as some other racing games like Project Gotham Racing 2 however, but they are still pretty good.
Audio: Engine sounds in this game are bad. Most cars sound the same and you don't really hear any exhaust note, just the rpm of the engine. The engines don't sound like you think they would. The sound track to the game is pretty good though and the voice of the characters are pretty well done, but they missed the most important part which are the car sounds.
Suggestions: Improve racing physics.
Improve engine sounds.
Add count down to start of all races.
More camera angles during driving.
More Camera angles for replay.
More modes or longer Racing Life mode.
