Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003
Overall: What a great game! I am thoroughly enthralled by this golfing extravaganza that EA has birthed unto the world. Even though there are some things that I was not too enthusiastic about (such as having a lot of fantasy characters instead of using only real PGA players), I still give this game a full 5! Keep up the great work EA!
Gameplay: Gameplay is very comprehensive and easy to get used to. Out of all the golf games I have played to date, this one makes the most sense. The only complaint I have here is that the button-mashing for extra power and spin are wreaking havoc on my carpel tunnel syndrome (no, really...) Also, that caddy and his tips can go hug a moose. Every time I listened to him, I came up short and off centre. He's good for general directions, but other than that he's useless.
Graphics: What a good looking game. Of course Tiger is the most handsome and best rendered of all the players (nudge nudge...) but the rest of them look really cool too. Their eyes on the close-ups are kind of freaky (their eyes all look like they've been sucking on a bottle of whiskey before hitting the links... all red-rimmed and squinty). Visually I give it a high mark because it just looks so cool overall.
Audio: The ambient sounds and comments are great. Even though what the commentators are saying is quite misguiding at times, they still add a lot. The shot sounds are dead-on and the heart-thumping sound makes my heart pound. The sound adds another dimension to a well designed game.
Suggestions: Add more PGA players. It would help a lot playing against actual names you recognize as opposed to 'the Don' or 'Tsunami', etc... Other than that. keep up the good work. Oh, one more thing, give players the option to switch to a putter when a little further out on the fringe. That's all... Thanks.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
Overall: Overall this game is great. I really enjoyed the stealth aspect of Splinter Cell. The graphics and sounds are very well developed and blend seamlessly in this ultra-realistic gaming environment.
Gameplay: The controls seem a little overwhelming at first, but once you get used to them you would not want it any other way. Your tactical choices determine the outcome of the mission and vary depending on the mission objectives. It is an extremely player-friendly game in the sense that very few buttons give you a myriad of different moves.
Graphics: Beautiful seamless graphics with full 360' panning that allow you to take in all the necessary information you need to best assess your situation. The different environments are well designed and rendered. The only annoyance is that the lighting in some levels is unrealistic to one extent or another (Langley is a good example. When was the last time you saw a really dark office building.).
Audio: The sound is great. The music really sets the mood and the voice-over done by Michael Ironside is great. I love his rough and tough approach to the character. It adds a lot to the gameplay. The environmental sounds are very nicely done.
Suggestions: Overall the only complaint I have is that the NPCs do not react enough to their environment. If I saw a dead guy lying on the ground, I wouldn't just walk around picking my nose but raise the roof. I know it would make the game even harder, but that would be more realistic (which is what this game is going for...).
