Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
Overall: A great game that any friends can relate to with excellent gameplay mechanics and plenty of hooks for the beginning player. Great multiplayer and single player modes, and plenty of unlockables if that's your thing. The only drawback is a tedious repitition of the campaign mode.
Gameplay: The mechanics in this game are *SOLID*. They've used the same control scheme for 3 years, and only minor refinements have been introduced. This third installment adds the introduction of things like caspers (which are essentially manuals that slow you down) and reverts, which allow you to chain tricks off of a Vert ramp. The addition of the revert helps balance all the maps IMMENSELY in that now in Tony Hawk, it's possible to get huge scores based soley on skill, and not knowledge of the best "grind lines". Sure, those lines are still important, but they are nowhere near necessary to get the amount of points that one has to ac !&%$@#* ulate to topple the numerous goals for each level. On the contrary, grind lines are still necessary for getting the millions of points that impress friends.
Graphics: VERY Cool level design, far draw distances (as opposed to THPS2). Textures are on the blah side, and some models just seem blocky. Although, faster drawing is far more important in this kinda game, than eye candy imho.
Audio: Hilarous soundbytes some of the time. Others grow quite thin after a while. Music soundtrack is forgettable, and I always ended up playing my own music anyways.
Suggestions: More variance in campaign mode. The ability to record runs from competitions. Lose the time limit in campaign mode. More character specific specials. Something to REALLY distinguish all the characters in single player mode. They all play the same!!!
