The Thing
Overall: What this game tries to do it does well. Engrossing story and the trust/fear factors add a nice dynamic to the game. Overall a fun game.
Gameplay: It plays more like a ps2 game, has more of a ps2 feel to it than an xbox only game would have, but the gameplay is interesting and enjoyable. I'd be playing this one more if it wasn't for Enclave and Rallisport Challenge.
Graphics: Nice looking graphics, not bad to look at, but not up to the level they could be at if it was xbox only.. but still nice.
Audio: The sounds are well done.. the sound of your footsteps crunching in the snow combined with the graphics and gameplay elements make you feel like you're really out in the middle of the antarctic. Nicely put together atmosphere.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Rallisport Challenge
Overall: I've always enjoyed watching off-road racing on the tube, and this game captures its energy and various dynamics perfectly. There's nothing like powersliding around corners and going way faster than it seems like you should be able to on winding tracks.
Gameplay: It rocks. One of my favorite parts is the way they used the force-feedback in the controller. You can tell how much traction you've got under your wheels by how the force-feedback is responding to how you drive in the game... it rocks.
Graphics: This game looks very polished and fluid. You'll never experience any video slowdown, no matter how fast you're going. The effects for the snow and mud and whatnot shooting out from under your tires are excellent. If there's another car in front of you and they go from the mud onto the tarmac, the effects are such that there's no question in your mind that that's what just happened. Very realistic looking effects on this one.
Audio: With dolby 5.1, the sounds in this game are amazing. You'll be racing around the track with your co-pilot guy telling you what turns are coming up, and the sounds of your car, and feel like you're really in the automobile.
Suggestions: Don't make such a badass game next time, it's taking up too much of my time.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Enclave
Overall: This is one of those games that sucks you in from the start. This game is somewhat challenging, but if you're up for it, it's well worth the 50 bucks. As a gamer for the last 20 years, I'd say that this is one of the best games around, and is probably the best right now for the Xbox.
Gameplay: The gameplay is definitely challenging, but is so fun and enjoyable that you'll look forward to trying to complete the next level. It has a pretty good level of replayability. If it only had multiplayer it would really rock, but as it is now it still gets a 5.
The controls are easy to get used to, especially if you've played Halo. The jumping with the right thumbstick is my only complaint, but that is the only problem that this game has so far, after about 8 hours of playing, and it's very minor.
Everything ties together in this game to make it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. It seems like one of those games that after you put it down for awhile you're gonna want to play it again, even if you've beaten it already.
Graphics: Excellent graphics, it just makes me wish that I had a bigger tv. Fluid at all times so far. The various screenshots on the net don't do this game justice, you have to see it in action.
Audio: I've got dolby 5.1, and this game definitely sounds good playing through the speakers. The music is very good, and fits the mood of the game perfectly.
Suggestions: If you'd kept this one in development for a couple more months and given it some kind of multiplay, it'd be off the charts.
A game like this on XboxLive would be awesome.. maybe some day.
