STAFF REVIEW of Madden NFL 11 (Xbox 360)

Madden NFL 11 Box art When Madden first came out for the Xbox 360 in 2006 it was a big leap for the franchise with the madden games from 2007-2010; the menus were more difficult to maneuver and it took longer to try to find what you were looking for. The graphics are better compared to 2006 and the game play was also much tougher to adjust to.

Upon first putting the game into the Xbox 360 and when you are getting ready to load and start the game, you need to make sure you enter the code for the online play (They put the code on the back cover of the manual). You also had to enter a code for the VIP in Battlefield Bad Company as well. I think that is pretty smart of EA to do it that way; if someone sells their Madden game, somebody can?t just buy it used and have access to the online play, after so many people have to pay full price for the game in order to get to the online play.

When playing around with different features of the game I did notice that the menu and the controls have been changed as it is much easier to maneuver and get around the menu now compared to Madden 2010. I feel the mechanics of the game are similar to Madden 2010 as well. They took away the sprint button which I was very happy to see. I always had trouble during game play to try to focus on the sprint button and to make sure I hit it at the right moment. I like how the players just automatically sprint to the position you want them to based on the positions they are playing on the field. They did change up the controls a little bit where you have to use the dual sticks now; the left stick controls the movement and the right stick controls the moves like juking and 360 spins. It did take me a little while to get use to the controls but once I was familiar with them it was very easy to play the game and control my players on the field. One feature of the game that I did notice which I like is the Auto-sprint feature. You can turn that on or off, depending on what your preference of the game play is.

When I finally did get to play Madden 2011 I liked how the controls are a lot tighter than in previous Maddens that I have played in previous years. The ease of controlling the players through game play is much tighter than in previous years. I was playing in the head to head game with a friend of mine and they had played Madden on a different game system in the past and he even said how the controls were so much easier to operate and to get your players to do the plays and moves you wanted them to do. It didn?t take you as long to pick your plays and run them through as it did in the past either. I like how when you are playing and picking your plays you can actually see the letters much better then you could in the previous years because they made the letters nice and big so you can see them so you can see all the plays on the field clearly. The play book is so much better too, because you don?t have to go through all these plays to figure out which play you want to use because the way the controls are now makes it so much easier for you to pick them.

What I find pretty cool too about Madden 2011 is how the Coordinator calls the plays; if you have your headset on you can hear it right in your ear. It?s almost like you are in the game playing. Even though the Coordinator gives you his suggestions, you don?t need to take the plays. It?s not always fool proof either if you take their plays.

They did do an update to Madden 2011 which they didn?t have in previous versions though, if you quit in the middle of online game play, you will get the loss against you. I hate when you are playing against someone and you are beating them and they just log out in the middle of the game. That annoys me to no end, but now with this new update they will have to finish the whole game, or they will get the loss and nobody wants a loss on their record.

What I also like about Madden 2011 is that they have the three-on-three team mode joining franchise mode, also have head to head play. When you are playing on offense you can choose from QB, running backs, or even wide receivers. Also on defense you can control the defensive linemen, linebackers, or cornerbacks. When playing with teamwork, it makes you not want to screw up any of your plays and makes sure you execute your plays. I can?t wait to try the Three-On-Three game play with some of my friends.

The game in general is so much easier to just pick up, put it in the Xbox 360 and play. It also is faster paced compared to past Madden games, which is a plus to the game itself. When you are playing a game, you don?t want it to take forever to pick your plays or to just even start the game. There are a few glitches but it?s easy to overlook the minor glitches in the game.

I did notice that they have a card game in the game. They do give you one pack to start off with, but if you want to get more packs you actually have to buy points in order to get gamer card packs.

All and all the game has been updated for the better. It is the best Madden yet!Lets see if they can keep up the good work for next years Madden 12.

Suggestions:
Make the player chatter and crowd noise more part of the game.
