Halo 4 Limited Edition controller

by Brent Roberts

When Microsoft decided to produce limited edition consoles and controllers, there were some that struck the public as a feeble attempt to try and gain more profits on an already released title, and then there were those that blindsided the public by producing what some would call actual works of art.  The latter of those two scenarios is where we find the new Halo 4 Limited Edition controller.  Backed by a global marketing campaign, Microsoft has thrown caution to the wind in creating what could arguably be called the best looking controller on the market today.

When you look at the controller for the first time, you almost don't want to use it because of its aesthetic beauty; however Microsoft has stepped up to the mark to deliver the features we all want from a Limited Edition controller.  The shell of the controller itself is almost a mirrored representation of the Halo 4 console.  Decked out in a steel blue color scheme, you'll notice the UNSC logo on the left while streams of colors race throughout the controller, blanketing every inch of surface space.  The features such as a chrome guide button and transforming direction pad make their return, but a nice visual surprise rests in the ring of light that is no longer green but now is blue instead.

The rest of the bells and whistles are functionally similar to those found on other controllers today, minus of course the new direction pad and when priced at the same cost as the Halo 4 game itself ($59.99) you may be saying to yourself, "why would I want to spend $60 on a controller, when the stock controllers are $10 less?" and the answer can be found in the adjustable direction pad and the stick sensitivity.  Sure the aesthetics are amazing, but what comes down to the success of a controller is the controls themselves and for those people who have cursed the gaming gods for years due to a horrible direction pad, now is the time to rejoice.

With gamers having a wealth of choices at their disposal in terms of buying new controllers, one must never forget the fit, feel, and quality of those controllers straight from Microsoft.  While you may save a few dollars initially, you will have to contend with a mediocre build quality which in turn, will lead to the controller failing you in the heat of the moment.  Now that you've spent your hard earned cash on some of the latest and greatest in video game entertainment you need to make sure that your experience isn't soiled by a shotty controller, and without question the top controller for the Xbox 360 is the new Halo 4 Limited Edition controller.
