Street Fighter x Tekken DLC (Special Complete Pack)

by Adam Dileva

It looks like the fountain of DLC for Street Fighter x Tekken is about to start pouring very shortly. First up, we have the Special Complete Pack which will give you access to a set of 45 new Boost Gems that you can equip with any fighter. These gems are meant to enhance your play style and compliment your strengths or weaknesses.

Most of these gems are level 2 versions of gems that already come on the disc, but there are some newer ones, some level 3's, and even some that take up two gem slots. The best part about these 45 new gems is that these have little to no downside when comparing them to their level 1 counterparts. The best way I can describe the new gems included is to simply list them and their best non-DLC counterpart if applicable, as most people are going to be curious what the new gems are and how they stack up.

This is how I'll describe each gem:

Gem Benefit +% (Condition to trigger gem) - Closest non-DLC gem (Normal gem) if applicable.

Red Gems:

  • Damage +20% (connect 10 Normal moves) - Normal gem is also -10% Movement Speed.

  • Damage +20% (connect 4 special moves) - Normal gem is +10% with 3 moves.

  • Damage +20% (2 cross cancels) - Normal gem is +10% and 1 cross cancel.

  • Damage +30% (2 launchers) - Normal gem +20% and 1 launcher.

  • Damage +20% (escape 1 throw).

  • Damage +20% (partner connects 2 launchers).

  • Damage +20%, Incurred Damage Reduction +10% (partner connects 2 launchers). 2 gem slots.

  • Damage +20%, Vitality Instant Restoration +60 (partner connects 2 launchers). 2 gem slots.

  • Damage +20%, Cross Gauge Instant Restoration +200 (partner connects 2 launchers). 2 gem slots.

Yellow Gems:

  • Damage Reduction +20% (hit by 8 moves) - Normal gem is also -10% Movement Speed.

  • Damage Reduction +30% (block 15 times) - Normal gem is +20%.

  • Damage Reduction +20% (hit by 3 special moves) - Normal gem is also -10% Damage.

  • Damage Reduction +20% (hit by 2 EX special moves).

  • Damage Reduction +10% (1 launcher).

  • Damage Reduction +10% (escape 1 throw).

  • Incurred Damage Reduction +20% (block 10 times).

  • Incurred Damage Cut +130 (hit by 8 moves) - Normal gem is +100 from 4 moves.

  • Incurred Damage Cut +130 (block 10 times) - Normal gem is +100 from 5 blocks.

  • Incurred Damage Cut +130 (hit by 2 EX special moves) - Normal gem is +100 from 1 EX special move.

  • Incurred Damage Cut +130 (partner lands 2 launchers) - Normal gem is +100 from 1 partner launcher.

  • Incurred Damage Cut +130 (hit by a 10+ combo) - Normal gem is +100 from 5+ combo.

  • Incurred Damage Cut +100 (escape 1 throw).

  • Incurred Damage Reduction +20%, Damage +10% (block 10 times). 2 gem slots.

  • Incurred Damage Reduction +20%, Vitality Instant Restoration +60 (block 10 times). 2 gem slots.

  • Incurred Damage Reduction +20%, Cross Gauge Instant Restoration +200 (block 10 times). 2 gem slots.

Green Gems:

  • Movement +15% (connect 10 normal moves) - Normal gem also -8% to incurred Damage Reduction.

  • Movement +15% (10 blocks) - Normal gem +10% for 5 blocks.

  • Movement +15% (connect 4 special moves) - Normal gem also -8% to incurred Damage Reduction.

  • Movement +10% (1 cross cancel).

  • Movement +15% (2 launchers) - Normal gem is +10% with 1 launcher.

  • Movement +10% (escape 1 throw).

  • Movement +20% (connect 4 special moves).

  • Movement +15%, Damage +10% (get blocked 8 times). 2 gem slots.

  • Movement +15%, Incurred Damage Reduction +10% (get blocked 8 times). 2 gem slots.

  • Movement +15%, Cross Gauge Instant Restoration +200 (get blocked 8 times). 2 gem slots.

Blue Gems:

  • Cross Gauge Rate +40% (block 10 times).

  • Cross Gauge Rate +40% (connect 4 special moves) - Normal gem +20% with 3 moves.

  • Cross Gauge Rate +60% (connect 2 launchers) - Normal gem 40% with 1 launcher.

  • Cross Gauge Usage Reduction +20% (hit by 8 moves) - Normal gem +10% with 4 moves.

  • Cross Gauge Usage Reduction +20% (block 10 times).

  • Cross Gauge Usage Reduction +20% (hit by 3 special moves) - Normal gem +10% with 2 special moves.

  • Cross Gauge Rate +40%, Damage +10% (connect 4 special moves). 2 gem slots.

  • Cross Gauge Rate +40%, incurred Damage Reduction +10% (connect 4 special moves). 2 gem slots.

  • Cross Gauge Rate +40%, Vitality Instant Restoration +60 (connect 4 special moves). 2 gem slots.

If you use AutoSet to choose your gems for a specific category, it will now include the DLC gems as well. As you can see, nothing is too terribly overpowered, some have simply become more powerful at the cost of requiring more conditions to trigger the gems where others would make you silly using the level 1 version over the 2's.

The biggest question is how this will impact the game balance. Well, I still lose quite often even with my more powerful gems, but I can notice a slight increase in power and speed (the gems I tent to use more often). It's a great addition if you're needing just that little extra boost, or if you've wished you could do just a little more damage, be quicker, or have more Cross Gauge to use. I doubt these gems will be allowed in the competitive scene, but for the average player looking for an edge that wants to completely customize each fighter with gem setups, you can't go wrong as they are all upgrades to the ones that ship on the disc.
